More Damage than Expected

"More than Expected Damage Found at Japan Reactor" By Mari Yamaguchi

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110512/ap_on_re_as/as_japan_earthquake

I had almost forgotten about the radiation leaks with the whole Bin Laden thing. But it turns out that there is more damage and leaks than people expected. They are still trying to cool it but it doesn't seem to work. So now what they are trying to do is find new solutions to the problem. I really wish them good luck becuase I don't anybody to suffer from this.

Bin Laden Eyed New Targets

11 May 2011

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110511/ap_on_re_us/us_bin_laden

It's said that during the raid, they found plans for future and past terroist plots with Osama Bin Laden behind them all. He wanted to attack smaller cities, rail road tracks, anything as long as it killed Americans. I'm just hoping that his death was enough to slow down his followers....

Shooting in Riverwalk

"Man Guns Down 2,is Killed by Police" By Steven Barrie
11 May 2011

Yesterday around 6p.m. there was a shooting in Riverwalk were a man and a women was shot, the gunman, along with the victims are dead. I didn't really know what was going on at the time, I just knew something was up because the helicopter was right above my house, and roaming around. This is just a really sad event because the stroy that's going around is that the gunman killed his ex, and that's really scary. I feel for the the familys of the victims and I hope they can get through this event.

Carpe Diem

I just felt like blogging about this because I'm finally done with one project [three more to go=/ lol] but for the past three weeks I've been working on my Carpe Diem project for english, and I have to say it's been a fun project. The point of the project was to have the class enjoy life and stay as young as long as we can [or at least until we graduate]. The project was fun because of the fact that my friends joined in a few, we always have a good laugh when we are all together. It was just overall a great experience I really hope they continue to give out this project. So thank you Mrs. Bokman for this project!=]

Torture

"Bin Laden Killing won't Settle Debate Over Enhanced Interrogations"By Zachary Roth
04 May 2011

http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_thelookout/20110504/ts_yblog_thelookout/bin-laden-killing-wont-settle-debate-over-enhanced-interrogations

The topic of the way the U.S. interrogates people has come up again after the death of bin Laden. People are claiming that torturing criminals is effective, and others are saying that it's used to recruit people who hate us. I don't really care about torturing criminals for information, I don't have any sympathy because of the fact that they didn't care when they made many innocent people suffer by killing their loved ones. The only reason I DON"T like this interrogation process is because I beleive that they're some people who are taking advantage and are torturing just to torture instead of as a way to get information. And it is hard to watch, and part of me believe it's inhumane, so I believe we need to find a different way of getting our information even though I still don't feel bad [unless they are innocent], because the U.S. needs to show a good example for otehr nations.

Minute-by-Minute

"Minute-By-Minute: The Operation to get bin Laden" By
03 May 2011

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503543_162-20058792-503543.html

Yesterday on the news there was more info on the attack that killed Osama bin Laden, and it was interesting to see. They made an animated video of what happened, and it was interesting to see what happened. They also gave more details on the raid such as bin Laden using his, what we think to be one of wifes, as a shield. That really got to me, I mean the man that planned to kill more innocent people, the one who planned 9/11, he uses a women as a shield against the shots. What a coward, and even in his last moments he hides to protect himself.

I just heard that Osama Bin Laden is dead, and Obama just gave his speech. Finally those people who lost a loved one has been given some type of justice. A small team of Americans carried out this plan and the U.S now has the body in custody. I still don't know all the details, but I'll defeniatly post more on this. I'm still speechless....today is truely a historical day.

The Big Day- Royal Wedding

"Kate Middleton Wedding Dress a Success" By Claudine Zap

Today was the Royal Wedding, Prince William and Kate Middleton are now husband and wife. I actually woke up at 1 a.m. this morning just to watch it, the whole thing was just beautiful. The ceremony was nicely done and I think it went perfectly. Kate's dress was very beautiful as well and everybody seems to have liked it, she was successful in keeping her wedding dress a secret. I really wish both Will and Kate happiness.

Class Discussion- Immigration

Today in class we had our class discussion on immigration, it was interesting to see where people stood. I really am not choosing sides, because I don't fully agree with everything one side has to say about the topic. I just wish we could find some type of solution, I liked the fact that Xavier pointed out that there were programs were immigrants can join in order to come to the United States legally and work. That to me seems like a great solution, why come illegally when you can come without haveing the fear of being deported. I  also think that we need to focus on the immigrants that are causing trouble and help those that are really here to work, learn and support those they love. I can see both sides and understand why the government is frusterated and I understand that immigrants are being treated unfair. I wish I would have spoken up more because I had some questions and things to point out, and I do feel bad for using the word "colored people" it just came up for lack of a better word and I always get nervous I completely take that back because I didn't agree with the person who used it. Overall nice points were made, too bad we don't have another day to discuss because this topic is a big one.

Chained in a Closet

" The Oprah Winfrey Show Today: The 6-Year-Old That was Chained in a Closet" By
15 April 2011

http://www.current-movie-reviews.com/previews/2011/04/15/the-oprah-winfrey-show-today-the-6-year-old-that-was-chained-in-a-closet/comment-page-1/

At age six, when most little kids are living life happily, and worry free, a little boy named Clayton Grad was put in a small bathroom closet and wrapped around with a chained fence. But now at age nineteen we finally got to here his story, when I saw him on Oprah and heard his story I was so upset to hear that the people who abused him were the people who were supposed to protect him. Clayton's own father and stepmother put him in the closet and did such cruel things I really don't want to go into them because they really upset me. I mean to think that this little boy had to suffer because the father was spineless and seemed to care more about the new wife over his own flesh and blood. I am just glad to know that Clayton is now living a happy life.

He Shouldn't Have Complained

"Royal Guard Cut from Wedding after Kate Complaints"By Kwala Mandel
25 April 2011
http://royalwedding.yahoo.com/blogs/guard-cut-from-wedding-after-kate-complaints-6189?nc

There will be a guard missing at the royal wedding becuase the eighteen year old complained about Kate Middleton being to "stuck up" and a few other things. I thought it was pretty dumb of the kid to complain about that, the only reason he complained was because Kate didn't look at him, he messed up his chance to be in the Royal Wedding which is such an honor. He wanted attention now he has it, just not in the way he wanted. And in my opinion Kate Middleton doesn't look stuck up at all, she seems really nice and quite and I wish her and William the best.

Invisible Children

"Invisible Children" By
http://www.invisiblechildren.com/homepage.html

Yesterday on Oprah, there were these three young men. [These three young men had been on Oprah when they were only college students who were trying to find some type of adventure] They went to Africa and soon after they made it their mission to help the country, because as many people don't know, Africa has been going through an invisible war. A man named Joseph Kony has been terrozing four countries, and children are being abducted and are forced to fight. These three young men are trying to fix and help Northern Uganda by rebuilding schools, educating future leaders and providing jobs. I admire these men because they are really passionate and really care for these kids, if we just donate $25.00 it would really help alot.

Dalray Kawane Andrews  is behind bars for robbing and murdering a man named Joshua Huizar of Rialto. Dalray shot Joshua after Joshua tryed to escape. My heart goes out to the family, and I hope Dalray pays for what he has done. I also come back to the idea that guns need to be destroyed because so many innocent people become victims to it. If we destroy guns I believe that it would save so many lifes.

Child of Rage

"Child of Rage"By Ken Tucker
1992
http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20050792,00.html

In sociology the class is watching a movie called "Child of Rage", it's about a little seven year old girl named Catherine who is very violent [a young sociopath]. The child was raped at a very young so we believe that is the reason for her her actions, but the thing is she does many cruel things. The reason the movie is creepy is because it's a true story. There really was a violent little girl who almost killed her younger brother, hurt animals and more. I really recommend watching this movie because it is very interesting to see.

As a big fan of General Hospital=D [a daytime drama] when  I read the title of the article I was worried it could be mine. But General Hospital will continue to air as usual, instead "One Life to Live" and "All my Children" will be canceled. Even though I don't watch or care for these shows it must really suck for those that do enjoy the soap operah. "All my Children" will go off the air sometime in September and "One Life To Live" will be in January. They will be replacing their air times with some type of food/healthy related shows.

DON'T Drink and Drive

"Drunk Driving Statistics"

http://www.duiattorneyhome.com/DUI/Drunk-Driving-Statistics

Today we saw what a drinking and driving car crash would look like. And to be honost I'm so glad they showed our school, because many people are unaware of what they are doing. My best friend was one of the ones who "died", I had tryed texting her but I found out she had her communication to friends and family taken away.It actually got me and my friends thinking "what if it really was one of us?", it was really hard to take in the fact that someone is dying every 15 minutes due to drinking and driving. During the reanactment I heard some people say they would think before they drank, and I was so glad that some people got the point.I hope people realize that drinking isn't as great as they think it is, and think twice before they drink or get in a car drunk/ or with a drunk driver. Because if you do you could mess up your life or someone else's life, and those that love them as well.

Double Life

"Calif. Mother of 3 Recounts Life as a 'Outlaw'"
7 April 2011
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/42463310/ns/us_news/

Last week on Oprah a woman named Marie Walsh tells her story of when instead she was known as Susan LeFevre. Marie says that she was sent to jail for dealing heroin, but her grandfather had helped her escape, because he didn't believe she belonged in jail. And since then has become a model citizen, got married and had a family; never once forgetting the fact that she could get caught any day. For 32 years she was free, and this story is so amazing to me becuase I never really thought that some people who were in jail could possibly be innocent [in the interview she mentioned someting on this subject] .We never think about the people who really just happened to have drugs on them, and still they are the ones punished. It's really important then to pick your friends wisely, that way you are never in a situation like the one Marie Walsh was in.

Sicko

"Sicko-A Michael Moore Documentary"

http://www.documentary24.com/sicko-a-michael-moore-documentary--197/

http://www.ericdsnider.com/movies/sicko
Today in class my teacher told us that the class was going to watch a documentary /movie called "Sicko". I watched this movie last year and it was hard to hear the stories, there were people who were kicked out of the hospital because they couldn't pay, and there were people who died from a simple sickness just beacause they were denied, and to me that's just really wrong. The documentary is about health coverage [or the lack of it]. A person doesn't deserve to die because they can't pay the bills, a life is way more important than money.

But they don't know whether it will be a threat to the marine life. Dumping radioactive water into the ocean was also said to be the last option.

Obama's Rating Hits a New Low

"President Obama's Approval Rating Hits a New Low" By Holley Bailey
30 March 2011

http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_theticket/president-obamas-approval-rating-hits-a-new-low

About 48% of people don't approve of the job Obama is doing which is a bad sign for his upcoming re-election campaign for 2012. Another 50% says Obama doesn't deserve to be re-elected. The way he is handling Libya didn't help him. I read some of the comments people left, and I can agree with some points, but there are others who were really harsh. I can see why people aren't happy but I really do believe that Obama is doing his best and instead of criticizing everthing he does, we need to somehow help to come up with solutions instead.

Yesterday I saw on the news of a kid bullying another kid, named Casey Heynes. The alleged bully punched  Casey, until finally he decided to defend himself. Casey picked up the other kid and body slammed  him to the concrete floor. It was hard for me to see more than once, the kid who was body-slammed couldn't really stand up after being knocked down. It's been said that Casey could have paralyzed the other boy. I beleive that bullying needs to stop, and I understand Casey has been bullyed, I hate it and I really feel for him but body-slamming a kid was not the correct response.

People were surpirsed because he seemed to be a "plausible anti-war candidate". I don't really agree with the attack on Libya but instead of complaining we can try to figure out a solution.

50 Faceless Hereos [WHIP]

50 Faceless Hereos

Paul Harper.Hereos of Fukushima.16 March 2011.
  world.nzherald.co.nz.16 March 2011

Due to the explosion at Fukushima Daiichi's, a manager ordered an evacuation. But 50 brave men stayed behind to try to fix the power plant. They stayed behind knowing it was dangerous, knowing they would be exposed to the radiation and even then they are still working hard to try and fix it. They are said to be exposed to high doses of radiation, and even though they are wearing protective clothing they will still face some negative effects. I heard in the news that the men that stayed behind were not young men, but old men. They said these men were volunteered for their age becuase they believed they wouldn't die becuase of the harmful effects. Because it takes 10 to 20 years for the effects to kick in they believe they would die before they began to suffer.

Class Discussion -Education

I didn't think that we would have alot to say for this class discussion because I thought we all agreed on the same things. But I was so wrong because people still had alot to say, and it was really interesting to see the different ideas that my classmates had. I wasn't so surprised when people disagreed with my idea of wanting to expand school hours. I expected them to disagree, but some people didn't really seem to mind, which did surprised me. I know I didn't really explain myself and get my point across, but I really do think longer school days would benifit us. We could take our time to learn our lessons instead of just memorizing things. We would be so much more prepared for when we graduate. People think that longer school hours will be a drag and we would get tired of being in school. But along with having a longer school day, we'd find new ways to learn and take the classes we actaully want to take, teachers would have time to help us,even longer lunches, I really believe we would benifit from this. I also believe we need to get rid of Tenure, because the bad teachers are keeping the kids behind. And we are also wasting money with having teachers who don't make a difference. I also believe the "Rubber Room" needs to be gone because the money being used to pay those bad teachers is wasted, and should be used for our edducation[technology, teachers, etc].

I knew things were bad, but up untill I read this article did I realize that things were extremely horrible. It almost seems like some movie, but this is real. There are 50 unknown workers who stayed behind to try to fix one of the nuclear plants. They are being so selfless that I admire them and really hope they make it back out so that they can be thanked, because they are risking so much for everyone else. I really hope things get better soon.

09 March 2011

http://marriage.about.com/cs/teenmarriage/a/teenmarriage.htm

Why are so many teens ready to marry right after graduating? Are they doomed for divorce? Or guranteed a happy ending? It all depends on the person in the end, because there are some cases were things work out fine, but in other cases we hear of people being abused. But isn't it better to wait untill you for sure know you will be with that person forever?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_thelookout/20110307/us_yblog_thelookout/nypd-helicopter-video-of-9-11-attack-surfaces

They have new footage of 9/11, from the view of the helicopter. I have seen many documentrys and footages on 9/11 and for me they are painful to watch. But I believe people need to see this so  that they have a sense of pride for those that are fighting for us.

"Blieber" punches Selena?

"Selena Gomez didn't get punched by a Justing Beiber Fan "by Dahvi Shira
04 March 2011
http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20470460,00.html

Supposbly Selena Gomez got punched by a Justin Beiber fan, on the night that she and Justin celebrated his 17th birthday. But no one really knows the truth about why her lip looked swollen, some say a fan got crazy others say she just didn't get punched. What is true though is that fans are threatening Selena, and all because she's going out with Justin Bieber. Now seriously I think these people are crazy, and to the point of threatening someone else is pyschotic and they really need to realize that they will never have Justin, so they really need to get over their jealousy. The sooner they realize that the better.

After a mother finds out that the cake shop has run out of her favorite cupcakes she literally has a fit and trashes place. Not only does she embarass herself and most likely get herself in trouble but she does it in front of her kids. Great role model....

Street Racing: Fun or Dangerous?

"Street Racing" By Joseph Petrocelli
2 March 2011

http://www.policemag.com/Channel/Patrol/Articles/2007/04/Patrol-Response-to.aspx

Many people, enjoy street racing without really thinking about how dangerous it can be. They are only in it for the rush, the competition and so called "fun". They don't even think of the possibility of hurting themselves or others. It's said that 50 times each year people die due to the result of an accident, that's something that can be avoided and so I believe people need to stop.

Franco/ Hathaway

"Franco/Hathaway Pairing Disappoints at Oscars" By Tim Grierson
23 February 2011

http://oscars.movies.yahoo.com/blog/111-franco-hathaway-pairing-disappoints-at-oscars?nc

Yesterday was the 83rd Annual Acaedemy Award Show. I watched the whole show becuase I found out that James Franco<3 was hosting it along with Anne Hathaway. From the begining many said that they don't understand why these two young stars would be the hosts, and so of course they are going to criticize. They say that Franco didn't do so well, and I must admit he didnt do his best but since this was his first time and he was up for his first Nominee ever I really don't blame him for being nervous. And I don't think he did so bad<3=].

"Wild Child Speechless After Tortured Life" Susan Donaldson James
24 February 2011

Today in sociology my teacher told us we would be watching a movie called "Genie the Wild Child", and I don't know exactly what's going to happen, but I looked it up and learned that it's more than just the story of a neglected child. She was basically isolated from society until she was saved when she was about 13 years old. We will learn more in class about how by being isolated can effect someone from fully becomeing into a human, because this girl didn't know anything about acting as a human due to her father's cruel isolation.

Girl Who was Forced to live in a Dog Cage

http://www.huliq.com/10178/oprah-talks-girl-forced-live-dog-cage

"Oprah talks to gir forced to live in dog cage" Anissa Ford
23 Febraury 2011

I was watching one show and on the bottom of the screen it read that on the next Oprah she would be intertviewing a "girl who was forced to live in a dog cage". I missed the actaul interview but I looked up the story and it said that in 1998,Chelsea Rogers was finally saved from her imprisoment in a dog cage, she was only seventeen at the time. Her parents excuse was that their daughter had psychiatric problems. But even if she did, they should have found a better solution, because forceing your own child tp live in a dog cage, is just wrong in so many ways, and not only did they neglect and abuse her, they abused their other kids as well.

Warning Signs

http://www.authorstephenwhite.com/Book_Collection/Warning_Signs/warning_signs.html

"Warning Signs"
22 Febraury 2011

If ever you want to read a good book I reccomend you read the book "Warning Signs" by Stephen White. It was a pretty interesting book and I don't want to give too much away, but all I want to say is that it made me think about the justice system. I know that not everything is perfect but if things that are mentioned in the book; such as the years put in prison. I believe we should  make it an effort to fix it.

Class Discussion-2

I thought Friday's class discussion was pretty interesting, and hearing people's thoughts on the issue gave me a view to both sides of whether or not the mosque should be built near ground zero. But from begining to end of the discussion I beleived that the mosque shouldn't be built near ground zero because there are people who are still suffering from what happened on September 11. There were people who said it wasn't right to judge the muslims just because a few committed terrosim; and I agree but it's not the first time the U.S has been a target. I don't have a problem with the mosque being built anywhere else, I just wouldn't believe it would be something nice to do considering whats near by. There was this analogy I read in an article that I believe goes pretty well with this situation, a man said "Nazi's don't have the right to put up signs near the holocuast". When I sided with the believe that the mosque should not be built near ground zero it was because I was thinking of those that have suffered and the people that are still suffering and not because it's being racist as others in class believe. The mosque can be built there, they have the right, they just want a place to worship their religion peacefully like all other types of religions; but just because something can be done it doesn't really mean it should. And I feel bad becuase there are people out there that seem to want to stop muslims from doing anything, even from doing a frundraiser, and that's were I believe enough is enough. People come to live in the U.S for a better life and I believe they need to be given that chance. But overall the class discussion was great, there were some people that were really into it and I'm glad I actually contributed some of my thoughts.

True Story

"Aron Ralston- The Real Story", Stephanie Simon
7 Novemeber 2010
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/thedailymirror/2010/11/aron-ralston-the-real-story.html

Could you ever amputate your own arm? What if it saved your life? Aron Ralston faced this question. Aron was a cocky-adventrous- risk-taker-do-things-on-his-own type of guy, and he still is, what he's been through didn't slow him down. His trip to Utah he faced the challenge of whether or not to amputate his arm due to it being wedged between a boulder and a rock wall. The mistake he made was telling no one of were he was going and he had very few supplies, but he still somehow made it through five days. Aron's amazing story is told in the movie 127 Hours. [James Franco<3  plays Aron]

That's Real Love

"American Idol Contestant Chris Medina Shares Heartbreaking Story," Aaron Parsley
27 January 2011

There are a few if any ,guys like Chris Medina[26].He auditioned on American Idol with the song "Breakeven", and not only was his voice great but his story showed that he was an even greater person. Chris Medina was supposed to marry Juliana Ramos but two months before the wedding, tradgedy struck. Juliana was in a car accident that left her brain damaged, which has postoned the wedding. The beautiful part is that Chris is still with her, taking care of her. This story stuck to me because others would have left someone in that position but Chris didn't, and that to me was a sign of true love. And I really wish Chris and Juliana the best!

PACKERS or Steelers?

"Super Bowl 2011: Packers vs. Steelers, Who Will Win and How They'll Win It," Tom Edrington
January 31,2011

People are saying that waiting for the big game has been "dull",since there hasn't been any controversy or calling other players out. Many also beleive that the Steelers will win only because they've, "been there done that". This article talks about why one team might have the edge on certain things over the other. Well just have to see what happens on Sunday....and I REALLY hope the Packers win this year, I'd rather not have the Steelers win. So good luck to the Packers!!

Mother Kills Her Own Kids

http://www.allvoices.com/contributed-news/8032090-army-wife-shot-and-killed-kids-for-mouthing-off

"Army Wife Shot and Killed Kids for 'Mouthing Off' ' ," Veronica Roberts
January 28, 2011

On January 29, 2011 a mother from Florida, shot and killed both her children, for what she called "being mouthy". Julia Powers Schenecker admits to have shot both her daughter and her son. Her husband was away at the MacDill Air Force at the time. I really can not believe that a mother would shoot her own children, how can you live with yourself knowing you killed your own flesh and blood? This is a really sad story and my heart goes out to Parker Schenecker, the father of these children.

First Class Discussion on Health Care

The first class discussion was pretty interesting in my opinion. It was interesting in the way that I was able to see what people thought and said. My only regret was that I didn't speak up as much as I should have, because with some of things my classmates said I really didn't agree on. Like with the fact that they wouldn't want to copy other nations Health Care because we should only focus on ourselves. I really don't agree with that only because of the fact that we see how well focusing on only on our own Health Reform has worked out for us[it hasnt]. I say we look at other nations and look at the way they work and copy there best ideas and try to work them into out own system. I'm not saying we copy EVERYTHING just the good things. And when people brought up the immigration issue, I really didn't agree because they're saying that just because they are illegal they shouldn't get the help they need and let them die. People from all over the world come to the United States  to live a better life, and better opportunites and that includes Health Care. People shouldn't suffer just because of the fact that they're illegal. I understand that some of them aren't helping to pay for the bills and so on but I believe the health of a person is way more important. But overall some people had some good thoughts, I'll make sure to speak up more next time.

Interesting Fact on Coca- Cola

 http://www.thecoca-colacompany.com/contactus/myths_rumors/packaging_cleaner.html
"Product and Packaging Rumors," The Coca- Cola Company

I've heard rumors that Coca- Cola could be used as a toilet cleaner. I thought that was gross and sounded like it was somethng unhealthy to drink so I searched for an answer. The Coca-Cola Company claims that the  rumors such as these are in fact just rumors.

"How to Use Coca- Cola to Remove Toilet Stains," Hal Bartle

But then this website gives instructions on how to use it as a toilet cleaner....so who's lying? And who's telling the truth?

Shooting in Gardena High School, Daily Post. January 18, 2011

http://dailypostal.com/2011/01/18/gardena-high-school-shooting/

I just found out about the shooting at Gardena High School this morning.I was so surprised to find out that the shooting was by accident.I can't even imagine  how scared the students, school and parents must feel.
